We visited a local farm yesterday for their sheep shearing. It was so great–i’m glad we braved the weather! The sunshine made the cold bearable…
Anyway, here’s a picture or 2.
While we didn’t get any roving, we plan on stopping back by. I read that Dorset is a great wool for needle felting & they’ll shear the majority of them in a few weeks, so we’ll return. If you’re local & not visited Rising Meadow & Goat Lady Dairy make a plan for May 2nd! (after you visit us downtown for this).
& though I’m not much of a knitter, Drew & I are both set on the idea of getting freshly shorn wool then cleaning & carding it ourselves. How can one NOT want to do this, at least once?!
Here are some of Naomi’s Shots from the front row.

I'm SO jealous! We were planning to go but with the snow/crazy southern drivers, we declined at the last minute. 🙁 I'm glad you guys had a great time! Next year, for sure!! 🙂
I wanted to go to this, but totally forgot! Guess that's how it goes.
I have a friend in NM that has a llama that she shears in the spring. She said she just throws out the fleece, so I asked her if I can have it. I don't have a clue what to do with it, but I'm hoping to at least try! I think I can handle the washing and carding, but the spinning wheel still has me stumped. It looks like so much fun to learn, though!
I thought I might bump into some of you ladies out there! & Annelle, Drew's uncle is sending us all his Llama shearings (not sure what kind) for the same reason. Looking forward to seeing what we can do with all that!
We were not that brave! We went to Trader Joe's insead:) Looks like fun– we should get together to needle felt (let Joy tell you how successful that is with kids around!)
They are all so cute! Looks like you had a fun time! 😉
Neat! And I love your book list on the side 🙂
I caught this on the TM site a day late. Drats! I have marked my calendar for the Spring Open Farm on May 2nd… is it the same place?
Sunny. Rising Meadow & Goat Lady both have spring open houses that day (i think). Usually they're together, they're like 1 mile apart. Totally worth the drive!
I am really excited to spend more time this year taking the kids to meet livestock, and especially to see sheep being sheered, and purchasing the wool for use at home. We have gone once every year since my oldest was 7 months, but I still think that it would be better to get a bit more exposure.
Thanks for the reminder
